L-glutamine  is an amino acid that is an amide of glutamic acid. It is one of the three most abundant amino acids in the blood and brain. It comes in the form of two enantiomers. Naturally occurring L-glutamine is one of the 20 basic amino acids found in many plant and animal proteins. Glutamine is an endogenous amino acid, therefore it does not have to be supplied to the body with food. However, there are certain physiological states during which the demand for it increases and then its supplementation is necessary.

L-glutamine functions:
