In Norse mythology, the gods and giants are central figures representing cosmic forces and primordial chaos. The gods, known as the Aesir and Vanir, include powerful deities like Odin, the all-father; Thor, the thunder god; and Freya, the goddess of love and fertility. They reside in Asgard and maintain order in the cosmos. Conversely, the giants, or Jotnar, are often depicted as chaotic and destructive beings living in Jotunheim. While typically seen as adversaries of the gods, the giants are also integral to the world's balance, and their interactions with the gods—ranging from conflicts to alliances—shape the mythological narratives, ultimately culminating in the prophesied end of the world, Ragnarok.
