Ann Howie was a founding member of Roar Studios, one of Melbourne’s earliest artist-run initiatives. Conceived as a proverbial roar against the art establishment, Howie and her fellow artists – who included David Larwill, Giardino Pasquale and Mark Schaller – set about dismantling society’s expectations of image-making.

An avid love of nature is intrinsic to the practice of Melbourne-based artist Ann Howie. Howie has built a practice that explores the possibilities of composition. She constructs a landscape like a patchwork quilt, drawing the eye up and through each shrub, path and rock is treated as a beat, uniting in visual harmony. In 'Three Capes Track, Tasmania', Howie draws on the Japanese sensibility of ma—the concept of negative space—but inverts it to compress the landscape, revealing the layered complexity of the Tasmanian wilderness.

For collectors drawn to Australian landscapes, nature, and paintings that evoke both serenity and a spirit of adventure, 'Three Capes Track, Tasmania' is a captivating work that embodies both in equal measure.
