George Orwell (1903–1950) was an English writer, journalist, and essayist best known for his works 1984 and Animal Farm. His writing often explores themes of totalitarianism, social injustice, and the abuse of power. He is regarded as one of the most important writers of the 20th century for his political insights and his advocacy for individual freedoms.

1984 is a dystopian novel by George Orwell, published in 1949. It is set in a totalitarian society ruled by the Party, led by the figurehead Big Brother, where surveillance, propaganda, and mind control are pervasive. The protagonist, Winston Smith, works for the Party but begins to rebel against its oppressive regime. The novel explores themes of government control, truth manipulation, and the loss of individual freedom. It's widely regarded as a powerful critique of authoritarianism and the dangers of a surveillance state.
